Day 781 (07/15/09) Great News!

Day 781 (07/15/09)  Great news!

Exciting news...Double R will be back tomorrow!

We were supposed to have Jesse James on this morning.  He has a new show called Jesse James Is A Dead Man, and at 6:20 this morning we did not hear from him.  Finally we hear from his “people” that they can’t find him.  Huh?  How can you not find a person???  Well…2 hours later we got an email from his people:

Jesse just called me - he's was actually calling from the Long Beach, CA hospital - where he is getting X-rays. He hurt himself yesterday - re-injured his shoulder and went to the hospital overnight.  The titanium cable holding his shoulder together came loose...He apologizes profusely for missing the tour today and will be all set for next Tuesday.

During news we talked about some story of a local band that tried to steal artwork from the Blue Moon tavern --  a bar that they were playing at.  Read the story HERE.

Here the bummer story of the day…brought to you by the "National Foundation That Will Depress Any Person Planning On Getting Married"…ok, that’s not where it is from…it’s a story we found outta Yahoo News.  Between 2001 and 2007, researchers from Australian National University kept tabs on more than 2,500 couples to see if they could identify factors that make a couple more likely to get DIVORCED.  Here are eight of them.  Yay!

You're more likely to get divorced if . . .

1.  Your husband is NINE or more years older than you

2.  Your husband was under 25 when you got married

3.  You had kids before you got married, either from this relationship or a previous one

4.  Your wife wants kids a lot more than you do

5.  Your parents got divorced or separated

6.  It's the second or third marriage for at least one of you

7.  One of you smokes, but the other doesn't

8.  You're poor

This morning we had Jon Mejia on our show…because of this press release:

Seattle Out and Proud (SOaP) board member and media spokesperson Jon Mejia roundly condemned the new Sacha Baron Cohen film, “Bruno” for continuing to perpetuate ugly stereotypes about the LGBT community.

When asked why the strong negative reaction to the film Mejia answered, “Mel Brooks said that ‘Tragedy is when I cut my finger. Comedy is when you walk into an open sewer and die.’ This film left me feeling as if I had fallen into an open sewer. Let me put it this way, if you thought Al Jolson singing Mammy while in blackface makeup was good entertainment, you probably will enjoy this movie. As a gay man, I found it revolting.”

Mejia said, “While our community is fighting the civil rights battle of our time, Sacha Baron Cohen is making a bundle of money lampooning the LBGT community. I challenge him to publically state his unequivocal support for LGBT equality and to use some of his ill gotten gains by donating to organizations that fight for our community to have the benefits and rights every heterosexual in America enjoys.”

Apologists for Bruno tell us to lighten up because the movie actually is ‘pro-gay’, exposes homophobia and thereby espouses tolerance, but as many in the LGBT community see it, Bruno feels less like the wickedly wielded scalpel of satire and more like a crude knife in the back.

Et tu Bruno?
