Day 831 (10/01/09) My Way!
So today is the last day i am off...I am getting on a plane & Seattle bound...I will be back on air tomorrow morning, I am excited to be on air Friday...I need to laugh a little. Actually...that's not a fair statement as there have been lots of laughs as all of us in our family shared great memories of a great man, but the tears...they flowed like a fountain. I promise that I wont make this blog long...I'm still too emotional (yesterday was the hardest day of my life) & when emotional I tend to get wordy, but during the mass...my Uncle's philosophy came up: "Lead, follow, or get out of the way." This was his mantra as a very successful man in both his personal & professional life. He was a leader, he still is a leader, & his values & ethics I will follow for the rest of my life.
The funeral had an amazing soundtrack to it...the one thing my Uncle & I truly bonded over was music...he is the reason why I love the Beach Boys, the Who, the Doors, Springsteen, the Rolling Stones...He loved the Eagles as well...that one we had to agree to disagree on...so the whole time we were there paying our respects, these bands and more were playing on the speakers in the funeral home. It made sense, and it felt good.
Finally, there was one song that really hit me...it's a song that really sums up this incredible man....I've heard it a million times, but this time it was a powerful moment. If you choose to hit play on the video below, I hope you think of someone in your life that this song will relate to...maybe it's yer dad, yer friend, hell...maybe it's you...maybe he or she is living, or has passed on...regardless...think of that person...continue to be inspired by that person...and if you can...thank that person. If it's you...continue to inspire others, and...well...don't thank yourself...that would just be strange.
