Today we had Demico Rogers on the show….Demico is a local dude, and is on this season’s The Ultimate Fighter on SPIKE TV…this past week, Demico fought Brendan Schaub….man, it was a rough one as things looked great for Demico at first, but then Brendan won the show via submission with the Anaconda Chock hold. It’s not the end of the world that he lost, hell…part of the show’s point is to train these guys so that they can make it in the UFC. Based on that though, I lost a huge amount of respect for Rampage Jackson (my fave UFC fighter) for how he handled this fight before & after the match. Before the fight…Rampage & his fellow coaches were late & Demico & his team mates were just sitting & waiting for them to show up…while in the other locker room Rashad Evans is pumping Brandon up, getting him ready for the fight. So after the fight, Rampage refused to go into the octagon to console Demico after the loss…leaving him alone in the ring with no support from his team…none at all…but Rashad & his coaches actually chatted with him & gave words of wisdom. I usually don’t like Rashad, but based on this episode, I gained a lot of respect for him after that. We got an email about all of this from Derek:
Hey Steve - I heard you were going to have Damico on today, and I am sure you are prepared, but I was wondering a couple things after watching the episode.
First off, he got caught with a Darce choke. It's pretty common for wrestlers like Damico to get caught in that move because they train to keep their head down while they are grappling. The guy he fought is from Greg Jackson's camp and Yoda is the best in the game right now, so Damico shouldn't be hanging his head.
Since this was a two round fight, it's not an official loss under Nevada State Rules, so you can give him a high note there. :-)
I was wondering if Damico felt that he wasn't trained as well as some of the other fighters on the show, basically Rashad's whole team. Rampage and company weren't there to warm him up, they were late back to the training center to get his hands wrapped and Coach Tiki ( the guy with the multi colored goatee ) is just a suck fighter who had him trying to pass guard when he was doing good damage and moused up the guy's eye from within a safe guard.
Does he have any plans for overseas travel to fight if the UFC doesn't pick him up? Now with exposure he could go and fight in Japan and probably make some good cash.

Demico is a great dude, and I sure do hope to see him succeed in the UFC. I think if he wound up sticking to his game during that fight, and didn't listen to his coaches...he probably woruld have won that fight...but hindsight is 20/20. Also…catch Demico tomorrow night as he will be hanging at Rumble On The Ridge 5 at the Snoqualmie Casino, not only will Demico be there, but so will Double R & I…hope to see ya there. All I can say is...I won't be eating any Taco's or Sausage links this weekend...hell...I might just not even eat anything...one of my other co-workers, Kristina, replied to the email Catie sent us, and summed it up best:
"Seriously… too early for this sh*t."
